A Very Good Year

December 14, 2011

I remember lying in bed on New Years Eve last year, my two boys sleeping next to me as the ball dropped on New York. I remember feeling bad for Dick Clark as he struggled through the countdown. I remember feeling bad for myself in some ways –uncertain about everything. A week earlier THE CAPE one-shot was released and sold out in just 48hrs. I had done a few signings and got to meet some great people who were really enthusiastic about the book. I was riding a wave of awesome that started two days before Christmas, and came to a crashing halt on New Years Eve. I didn’t want that feeling to end, and part of me felt like the start of a new year meant a reset of everything. To be honest, I wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to get that feeling back, and that scared me.

Thankfully, I was wrong, and 2011 turned into one of the best years of my life. Here are a few things that made it great:

IDW accepted a pitch to expand THE CAPE one-shot into a four-issue miniseries and we were able to keep the entire creative team together. Here’s a picture of Me, Zach Howard, and Joe Hill at Granite Con:

Due to some bad public grammar, I met an amazing woman and fell in love. Meet Ellen…

And her dog, Henry. He’s a good old dog.

I moved…

At 34 I saw my first sunset…

On the day before my birthday, I became one of these…

My youngest boy started kindergarten, and my oldest started 5th grade…

This came out…

We had a great summer…

This also came out…

Ellen and I braved the summit of Mt. Washington…

I got to write this…

A lot more happened, but I don’t have pictures of those things. Sorry.

I can’t say what 2012 will bring, but if it’s anything like 2011 was, I’ll be a very happy guy. Cheers!

Thanks for stopping by, and happy holidays.
